Citizens' Police Academy
The Citizens' Police Academy is a Volunteer Program open to all adult citizens who wish to educate themselves in the operations of your Woodstock Police Service. The eight-week evening program is offered at no cost to the candidates.

Mandatory Requirements:
  • Reside within the City of Woodstock.
  • Be 19 years of age or older
  • Must be willing to commit to the full 8-week evening program
  • Successfully complete an interview and background check

The successful 10-12 candidates will spend 1 evening per week for 8 weeks with the Woodstock Police Service. Students will be exposed to each part of our Service - frontline patrol, training, the Forensic Identification Unit, the Drug Enforcement Unit, etc. Each section of our Service will have representatives explain in detail their responsibilities, and demonstrate the equipment used the performance of their duties. Students will also have an opportunity to use our Firearms Range, be "arrested" by our Police Service Dog and get a hands-on experience with most of our equipment. The highlight of the course is a ride-a-long with one of our frontline patrol officers for an evening where the candidate will have the opportunity to eyewitness the professional service we proudly provide for our citizens from a front row
seat.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the inner workings of your Woodstock Police Service and make your way behind the yellow "Crime Scene" tape to see how we "Protect Our Community". Upon completion of the Citizens‘ Police Academy the candidate will have no formal affiliation with the Woodstock Police Service. However, we do hope that through this dynamic interactive experience they will become an "Ambassador" for the Woodstock Police Service in our community.
