What is the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Certificate?

The OACP Certificate confirms that an applicant meets the basic competencies required to become a police officer in Ontario.

Do I need my OACP Certificate to apply?

No. You may apply without it; however, applicants who already possess their OACP Certificate will receive priority during active recruitment periods.
You must have the certificate in order to participate in fitness testing.

Can I email my application?

What is a character letter of reference?

A character reference should come from someone who has known you personally for more than five years and can speak to your honesty, integrity, and maturity. Long-term personal or professional acquaintances make ideal references.

How long is my application valid?

Applications remain valid for one year from the date of submission.

Do I have to live in Woodstock to apply?

No. WPS welcomes qualified applicants from across Ontario and beyond.

What are the age requirements for the Cadet Program?

You must be at least 18 years old to apply. Most successful applicants have completed college or university programs, but the cadet role is ideal for motivated young adults gaining early experience in policing.

How long does the hiring process take?

The selection process may take 2 to 6 months, depending on testing schedules and available training class intakes.

When do you hire police constables?

The Ontario Police College (OPC) offers four intakes annually — in January, April, July, and October.
WPS recruitment is continuous throughout the year and coordinated with OPC intake dates and available training spaces.

Do I need to include vision, hearing, and fitness logs?

Yes. These supporting documents must be included with your application package.

Do I need to complete a Police Foundations program?

No. The minimum education requirement is Grade 12 (or equivalent).
However, most successful applicants have post-secondary education in fields such as criminology, sociology, communications, business, psychology, or other disciplines that support leadership and community service.
