Local Request for Record Suspension
Applications for a Local Record Suspension (Pardon) can be submitted by mail or in person.
In-person applications are accepted Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
These requests may take up to 20 business days or more to complete. Completed results will be mailed to you by Canada Post — electronic copies are not available.
Fingerprinting
You may be required to provide fingerprints and a photograph as part of your record check if your information matches that of a person with a pardon or criminal record.
To be fingerprinted, please bring:
- One piece of government-issued photo identification (such as a driver’s licence or passport)
- Documentation from the requesting agency
Fingerprints collected for record checks are used only to complete your record check request. They are not added to criminal databases or compared with fingerprints collected from individuals charged with offences. A new set of fingerprints must be provided each time you apply for a record check.
When Fingerprinting Is Required
Request for Civil Fingerprints
Some applications require fingerprints for purposes such as immigration, Canadian citizenship, or record suspensions. These can be completed by the Woodstock Police Service if you reside in Woodstock.
Adoption
Adoption-related background checks require fingerprinting. For more information, visit the RCMP website.
Match to a Criminal Record
If your name and date of birth match an existing criminal record, fingerprints are required to confirm whether the record belongs to you or another individual.
Criminal Record Declaration Mismatch
If you have a criminal record, you must accurately declare it during your application. If the record you declare does not match what is found, you will be required to provide fingerprints to complete the check.
You do not need to declare:
- Convictions with a pardon or record suspension
- Convictions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA)
- Absolute or conditional discharges
- Charges that did not result in a conviction
- Provincial or municipal charges (e.g., tickets)
- Charges dealt with outside of Canada
- Inconclusive Vulnerable Sector Search
If your name, date of birth, or gender matches a suspended (pardoned) criminal record during a vulnerable sector search, fingerprints are required to confirm identity — even if you have never been convicted of a criminal offence.
Hours of Operation
Fingerprinting services are available Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Please call the Records Unit in advance to confirm availability before attending.
