Woodstock, ON – The Woodstock Police Service Street Crime Unit has laid charges following an investigation involving the alleged fraudulent purchase and reported theft of a vehicle.
On April 20, 2026, police received a report from an individual claiming they were the victim of a fraud involving the purchase of a luxury vehicle valued at approximately $46,000 from a Woodstock-area automotive business.
During the investigation, police learned that the vehicle had been financed and delivered to a third party with the consent of the purchaser. Investigators also determined that the vehicle had subsequently been reported stolen despite evidence suggesting the purchaser had knowledge of the vehicle’s whereabouts.
As a result of the investigation, on May 4, 2026, a 28-year-old male from Scarborough was arrested and charged with:
- Obtaining by False Pretence Over $5,000
- Theft
- Public Mischief
The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions.
In response to the growing complexity of vehicle crime investigations, the Woodstock Police Service recently established a dedicated Auto Theft Investigator position. The creation of this specialized investigative role strengthens the Woodstock Police Service’s ability to identify, investigate, and disrupt auto theft and vehicle fraud-related offences.
