The Special Victims Unit (SVU) is a specialized team within the Woodstock Police Service dedicated to investigating offences involving vulnerable persons and victims of serious interpersonal crimes.
Two SVU Detectives investigate cases including:
- Human trafficking
- Sexual assaults and other sexual offences
- Intimate partner and domestic violence
- Elder abuse and offences involving vulnerable adults
The SVU provides a trauma-informed and victim-centred approach to investigations, prioritizing safety, dignity, and respect for every individual affected by crime. Detectives work closely with victims and their families to ensure they receive guidance, updates, and access to appropriate community supports and services.
The SVU also collaborates with a wide network of community partners, including social service agencies, healthcare providers, shelters, and advocacy organizations, to strengthen wrap-around support and improve outcomes for victims.
