The Training Unit is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering training for all members of the Woodstock Police Service. The unit consists of a full-time Training Sergeant and an assisting Constable who support the ongoing professional development of both sworn and civilian members.

WPS is committed to ensuring every member receives high-quality training that meets or exceeds provincial standards. Internal training includes:

  • Ministry-mandated courses and recertifications
  • Practical and classroom sessions on legal and procedural updates
  • Defensive tactics, de-escalation, and use of force
  • Firearms and Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) training
  • CPR, First Aid, and tourniquet training
  • Bias awareness, anti-racism, and equity education
  • Containment and perimeter tactics
  • Member wellness and resilience topics
  • Online and e-learning modules

Members also participate in advanced courses and conferences hosted by the Ontario Police College (OPC), partner police services, and community organizations.

The Woodstock Police Service contributes to provincial training efforts by seconding a constable to the Ontario Police College, where they assist in training new police recruits, reinforcing WPS’s commitment to excellence in policing and professional development.
