Kids & Cops Camp with @bbbsoxford has been a huge success! Today we kicked off day one of the Kids&Cops summer camp in partnership with @bbbsoxford! We took a tour of the police station, visited the @woodstock_firedepartment, had lunch courtesy of @woodstockkelseys, then rounded off the day at @foreoxford. The Kids & Cops Baseball program is making a return starting next week! We still have some spots open for the program for children between the ages of 8-12 to learn to play baseball with our WPS Volunteer Coaches. No experience is required. If you're interested in applying to register your child(ren), visit the link below for more information and registrations forms. ** Important Note: there is a limited number of spots and they will be filled in a first come first served basis. You will receive a confirmation email or phone call to confirm if your child(ren) made it into the available spots. IF YOU DO NOT HEAR FROM US BY TUESDAY JULY 11th, THE SPOTS HAVE BEEN FILLED. Please do not send your children to the program anyway. Tip: double check to ensure you have included an accurate phone number and/or email address. Line of Duty Death – PSD Taz WOODSTOCK, ON (July 5, 2023) – It is with great sadness the Woodstock Police Service reports the line of duty death of Police Service Dog (PSD) Taz. The Woodstock Police Service K9 Unit responded to a call to assist the Stratford Police Service with a drug related investigation Monday, July 3, 2023. While conducting a search, PSD Taz and PSD Striker both appeared to ingest drugs. Narcan was administered and PSD Taz and PSD Striker were rushed to a Veterinarian Clinic. PSD Taz did not make it and died in the line of duty. PSD Striker remained at the clinic under observation, but is doing better and has returned home today. PSD Taz joined the Woodstock Police Service K9 Unit and began his training in 2021 and was officially deployed in 2022, allowing PSD Striker to begin transitioning into more of a community service oriented role. He was young but respected throughout the K9 community, as he had developed into an outstanding detection dog. In his short but successful career, PSD Taz, assisted with a number of arrests, drugs and weapons investigations, missing persons investigations and community service engagements. PSD Taz was well loved and cared for and will be greatly missed by his family, the entire Woodstock Police Service, his K9 friends and all of the groomers, vets and therapists who worked closely with him. The individuals involved in this investigation and PSD Taz’s death have been arrested and charged by the Stratford Police Service. Yesterday, we officially welcomed our two newest Youth In Policing Initiative (YIPI) summer students. Denitsa and Ryan will be spending the next 8 weeks with us learning about the Woodstock Police Service and working in the community with a number of our community partners.
