Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have completed four years of secondary school education or equivalent
  • Possess a valid Class G driver’s licence with a good driving record
  • Have no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted
  • Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of a police officer
  • Be of good moral character and habits
  • Be proficient in English (written and spoken)

A valid OACP Certificate of Results is required at the time of application.

Application Stages

  1. Application
    Submit your cover letter, résumé, relevant certificates, and completed application using the Application for Employment form.
  2. Screening
    Applications are reviewed to ensure minimum requirements and suitability are met.
  3. Fitness Test
    Selected applicants complete a physical fitness assessment – Stage 7 on Multi-stage fitness test (Beep Test)
  4. Pre-Background Questionnaire (PBQ) & Local Focus Interview
    Candidates complete a PBQ and participate in an interview to assess their understanding of policing and local community awareness.
  5. Panel Interview
    Qualified applicants are interviewed by a selection panel of senior officers.
  6. Background Investigation (BGI)
    A comprehensive background check is completed, including employment history, references, credit history, and home visit.
  7. Psychological Assessment
    Candidates undergo a psychological evaluation by a qualified professional.
  8. Medical Examination
    A medical provider assesses physical and mental fitness for duty.
  9. Conditional Offer of Employment
    Successful applicants receive a conditional offer to join WPS as a Cadet or Recruit Constable.
