If you make the following personal safety tips common in your everyday life, you will be contributing to a safer environment for both you and those around you.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels out of place, it probably is.
- Keep your personal information secure. This can include credit/debit cards, identification, address, and more.
- Don't open your doors to strangers. This includes car doors and the doors at your home.
- When in public, always be aware of your surroundings.
- Don't show off large amounts of money in public.
- If you believe you are being followed, head to a well-lit public place and call the police.
- If you are walking alone at night, be mindful of your surroundings and try to stay in well-lit areas.
- Be aware of current scams in your area. Avoid giving strangers personal information unless they are properly identified personnel. For more information about fraud and scams, visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center website or the WPS Fraud and Scams page.
- If you return to your home and find that your windows and/or doors have been tampered with, do not enter your home. Call police for assistance.
