In 2021, the WPS received grant funding to create the Special Victims Unit (SVU). Detective Sergeant of the Criminal Investigations Bureau handles supervising the two SVU Detectives.
They investigate human trafficking, sex related crimes, intimate partner violence, and elder abuse. The SVU also provides help, direction and act as a resource to victims. They will assist victims in accessing community supports and services.
The SVU builds supportive working relationships with community partners, diverse communities, youth, elderly and vulnerable people.
